Employee Benefit Plan Audits

The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) requires certain employee benefit plans, such as defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans, and certain welfare benefit plans, to file a Form 5500, Annual Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plan, with the Department of Labor (DOL) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Generally, plans with more than 100 participants at the beginning of the plan year are required to engage an independent accountant to audit the plan’s financial statements.

The professionals at Melanson are dedicated to providing quality ERISA services for our clients. Our services range from performing audits of employee benefit plans for DOL reporting purposes, Form 5500 preparation and review, representation in DOL and IRS examinations, and consulting on DOL and IRS compliance issues. Melanson is also a member of the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center (EBPAQC).
